THE  TWENTY-NINTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME

WEEKEND MASSES

SATURDAY

WEEKDAY MASSES

7:00am at St Ann

7:00am at St Ann

As Mark’s gospel unfolded over the last few weekends Jesus responded to four forms rivalry takes in humans because of original sin, or more accurately, the original lie. First, jealousy (which one of the apostles was the greatest); Second, group rivalry (“We saw someone driving our demons in your name, but he is not one of us”); Third, the need to label and banish (divorce-dispensing with a person and accepting the kingdom of God as a little child); Fourth, selfishness (“We have given up everything to follow you,” so what do we get out of this). Each eats away at the human heart.

This Sunday’s gospel is about another rivalry that all too often infects humans the need to be special in a group, in other words, pride. Two apostles approach Jesus and ask for a privileged place in the dawning kingdom. The other apostles, overhearing this, become indignant (read rivalrous) at the two, which threatens their cohesiveness and fraternity endangering their collective mission.

Jesus’ response in each instance is to focus on the more important need to proclaim the kingdom of God because the arrival of the kingdom shorts circuits this original sin/lie. In God we are all loved equally and fully. We no longer have the need or desire to be rivalistic. We are all sisters and brothers, coheirs to eternal life.

A Prayer...Lord,teach me to be generousto serve you as you deserve,to give and not to count the cost,to fight and not to heed the wounds,to toil and not to seek for rest,to labor and not to look for any reward, save that of knowing that I do your holy will.

NEWS AND UPDATES

ST ANN CAPITAL CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED

St Ann is undertaking a 1.5 Million Dollar Campaign to cover needed repairs on the Church, increase its endowment and take on a few projects as we look toward the future.

Members of St Ann parish will soon be receiving a letter describing the campaign and its goals and how to participate.

More detail will be available on the website

.

A section of flat-roof decking.

Repairs to St Ann are proceeding. The body of the Church has been largely remortered and the entire building washed.

Several new capstones will replace existing stones that have deteriorated to the point that water is infiltrating the Church at certain places. Those have not yet arrived.

The two flat roofs have been inspected. More deterioration than expected was found. Much of the decking is saturated and deteriorated and needs replacing. A new roofing membrane will then be installed. This has been a long-standing problem. It is well past time to repair them correctly.

WILL YOU HELP US?

We really need several people with video/streaming experience to learn and be part of our Live Mass Streaming team. Without some help, we will not be able to live stream our Mass each week, or provide video recordings of funerals and weddings. Please call the office if you can help or if you have questions, 6370157.

They will each offer valuable insight. At the end of the entire presentation there will be an opportunity to have your questions answered. There will also be an information packet for you to take home.
